The Embassy of Japan in Jamaica seeks to identify suitable Jamaican participants for the 2018 JET Programme. Interested applicants must display a positive attitude and professionalism both in and out of the classroom. The individual must also have an interest in the promotion of mutual understanding  between both nations. The programme aims to achieve its objectives by offering persons the opportunity to serve as Assistant Language Teachers in public and private elementary, junior and senior high schools and/or at local boards of education.

 

Applicants should:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree or three (3) year teaching diploma (those who can obtain proof of graduation by the designated arrival date may apply);
  • Be able to live and work in Japan for at least one year (successful candidates will depart for Japan in April or July 2018 in principle);
  • Not have lived in Japan for six or more years in total since 2008;
  • Have the ability to adapt to living and office conditions in Japan;
  • Be qualified as a language teacher or be strongly motivated to teach English as a foreign language. Be interested in the Japanese educational system, particularly in the Japanese way of teaching foreign languages
  • Have excellent pronunciation, rhythm, intonation and voice projection skills, as well as good oral and written skills
