Airports Authority of Jamaica is an independent statutory body, with ownership and management oversight of the Ian Fleming International Airport (St. Mary), Negril (Westmoreland), Ken Jones (Portland) Aerodromes, Tinson Pen (Kingston) Aerodrome and Norman Manley International Airport (Kingston). Its mandate is to develop and operate a safe and secure airport system for Jamaica.

 

Airports Authority of Jamaica currently has employment opportunities for suitably qualified persons in the position of Aviation Firefighter (Airport Protection Assistant Grade2) at the Negril and Tinson Pen Aerodromes and the Ian Fleming and Norman Manley International Airports.

 

 Scope of Responsibility:

After an initial six (6) month period of training, the successful candidates will, among other things, be expected to aircraft emergencies and structural fires at the airport/aerodrome and its environs; provide emergency and first aid care on the airport/aerodrome; and other related and preventative duties.

Firefighters must be physically able to perform their duties while wearing personal protective equipment; must demonstrate physical endurance and agility in performing hazardous tasks under emergency conditions, and think and act judiciously in emergencies.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: 

 

  • Five (5) CXC/GCE 'O' levels, including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject
  • Training as a Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and or in First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) would be asset.
  • Working knowledge of emergency response and security related equipment and techniques
  • Eighteen (18) months work experience preferably in the military, Jamaica Constabulary Force or an industrial organisation
  • Be the holder of an open Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) or Commercial Motor Carrier (CMR), general driver's license with specialized manual dexterity and practical skills
  • Skills in vehicle maintenance would be an asset
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30 years and a minimum height 5' 7"
  • Possess a clean police record

Note: Despite the required qualifications above, each applicant must pass a prescribed Entrance Examination (written, physical fitness, medical, and background check).
