General Summary of Role of Lifeguard

A Lifeguard under general supervision ensures the safety of patrons of Kool Runnings Water Park by preventing and responding to emergencies. A Lifeguard you is required to maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility and act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. A Lifeguard in his/her capacity will be able to provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of the EMT. (Must be 18 years or older.)

GENERAL SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to swim
• Ability to memorize safety procedures
• Knowledge of Customer Service standards and procedures.
• Ability to read, write and speak English and/or comprehend instructions
• Skilled in life guard surveillance and rescue techniques an asset
• Ability to remain calm and deal with highly stressful situations
• Ability to operate a two-way radio

PERSONALITY/ ATTITUDE REQUIREMENTS:

• Friendly, outgoing, polite and courteous, honest, dependable and able to use good judgment
• Remains calm in highly stressful situations and has a mature, positive attitude

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• The stamina to cope with responsibilities in all types of weather - direct sun, wind, rain.
• Able to correctly lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Able to move about and react quickly in emergency situations, as well as remain alert for the duration of time on any location.
• Able to tolerate heights and loud noises. Able to climb steps and has good balance.
• Able to withstand periods of walking and standing on concrete, uneven surfaces, and in the water.
• Able to retrieve 10-pound diving brick from a depth of 4 feet and be able to swim a distance of 10 feet underwater.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to complete Royal Life Saving Society and NEPA Lifeguard training and certification
• Able to complete CPR certification
• School leaving certificate from a High School or 3 passes at the level of CXC
• Customer Service Training certificate preferred.
• Successful completion of the Team Jamaica Course

EXPERIENCE

• Have some experience working in and around water
• Have keen understanding of water safety concepts
• One (1) year experience as a lifeguard preferable

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide supervision in and around water attractions
• Verbally communicate and enforce Safety rules to all guest before they enter rides
• Assist guests in emergency situations including water rescue and CPR
• Direct and assist guests onto water slides.
• Available to work on weekends and public holidays.
